Sorry for the incomplete info... Draw a semi-circle or arc in Autocad, divide it into small segment (Use DIV command). Then, enable node object snapping. You can delete the circle (real circle in this case) afterwards. Draw lines in between nodes one by one, until you create a circular pattern that looks like a circle but actually it is just a set of small successive segments of line, and that will be your curved member.

till i have a doubt that curved beam have no BM but when we divide it into small segments and draw line in between nodes it look likes as a fixed beam and it have BM.

I don't know exactly what you mean. I will just guess. Curve beam is also a flexural member (w/ torsion) so it has to have BM when subjected to loadings.

More and more I read that many people used STAAD for analyzing their models then used some kind of spreadsheets to design. Why is that? What’s wrong with STAAD design?

Another Reminder in STAAD Pro

Before you start analysis command you check your model by going to "Tools" Command there you can check your model for any duplicates such as Nodes, Members, structures etc.

a curved beam indeed has bm. in fact codes like aashto has special notes in bm acting in arcs

and if you model in very small lines (beams) its the best way as it was say before by verongskey
just remember that the best analysis and design software is as good as the bad engineer using it.

i have face a lot of problems with people that things that using a program and using the results dropped by the software is very easy. but also if you do a mistake in the input the results are going to be very very bad. worst than handmade calculations.

so when using software like staad mus have idea of the results.

I advise you to avoid using the software staadpro for dynamic studies of the works, since I'm using Staad 97, my advice is to focus to master ETAB, SAP2000.


I dare not say that STAADPRO is a bad tool, but its offer with respect to the dynamic study is incomparable with the options of SAP2000 AND Etabs .

if you find the program options OF ETABS, you will automatically decide the declaration of divorce against the STAADV8i BENTLEY.
