The Society
The New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) was formed in April 1968, and has made a significant impact on attitudes and practices for earthquake engineering through study projects, seminars, conferences, and publication of The Bulletin. A brief history of The Society is given below.

The Society provides a forum for technical debate, promotes reconnaissance of local and overseas earthquakes, is involved in the evolution of relevant legislation and regulations, and contributes to planning for, response to, and recovery from, earthquakes.

Mission and Objectives
The mission and objectives in the Society's Constitution and Rules (132 kB pdf) are paraphrased as "To gather, shape and apply knowledge to reduce the impact of earthquakes on our communities by:
Fostering the advancement of the science and practice of earthquake engineering across all disciplines
Promoting co-operation among scientists, engineers and other professionals in the broad field of earthquake engineering through interchange of knowledge, ideas, results of research and practical experience"
Membership
The membership of the Society includes professional engineers, scientists and others having an interest in earthquake phenomena or in the effects of earthquakes. Admission to membership of the Society is subject to the approval of the Management Committee. Ordinary (individual) and Corporate memberships are available (see Join for details), with a discount for students.
