Since Dr. Oscar Faber's original edition of this book was published in 1952, the art of constructing in concrete, be it reinforced or prestressed, has leapt forward at such a rate that there is now pressing need for a revised edition incorporating radical changes in many parts. The free exchange of technical knowledge at International Conferences, the operation of professional and commercial bodies in many countries, and the world wide exchange of technical papers and bulletins has led to a general pooling and sifting of information. Thus there has been a concentration or drawing together of ideas, particularly from Great Britain, America and the continent of Europe, with a general increase of appreciation of latest research and practical achievement. This haas led recently to the publication of many new Codes and Standards.
