for a quick and practical (preliminary) design it is said that this book is perfect. it is wellcome sharing the book if one has it.

It is not "perfect", if you ask me.

You can take a look at books.google.com - not the complete book of course, but most of its contents is there.

There is quite a lot historical data, which is completely unnecessary for such type of 'handbook', or 'manual', as the title suggests. Extremely big amount of examples, which are detailed in digits and numbers, but without proper explanations in the sense of the calculation.

But if you are interested in dams, there are no interesting books published in the last decade. The textbooks published by especially in the Indo-British authors (mostly) are useless in practice, and are only oriented to students. So this one by Herzog is a rather 'strange bird' which should be interesting for reading by an engineers, especially those who makes a lot of mistakes in the calculations ;) . This book will help them to compare their wrong FEA results with the expectations of the other engineers.

I think the best book in the decade is the "Geotechnical Engineering of Dams" by David Stapledon et al.
