Fibre Reinforced cementitious Composites (Modern Concrete Technology)
Taylor & Francis | ISBN: 041525048X | 2006-12-21 | PDF | 601 pages | 4 Mb

Advanced cementitious composites can be designed to have outstanding combinations of strength (five to ten time that of conventional concrete) and energy absorption capacity (up to 1000 times that of plain concrete).

This second edition brings together in one volume the latest research developments in this rapidly expanding area. The book is split into two parts. The first part is concerned with the mechanics of fibre reinforced brittle matrices and the implications for cementitious systems. In the second part the authors describe the various types of fibre-cement composites, discussing production processes, mechanical and physical properties, durability and applications. Two new chapters have been added, covering fibre specification and structural applications.

Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composites will be of great interest to practitioners involved in modern concrete technology and will also be of use to academics, researchers and graduate students.

The object of this book is to develop, in some detail, the fundamental scientific principles which govern the performance of FRC and to describe the production processes and properties of specific systems prepared with different types of fibres, such as steel, glass, polypropylene, natural fibres and various types of high performance polymeric fibres. To achieve these aims, the traditional materials science approach is used:

1 characterization of the microstructure;
2 relationships between the microstructure and engineering properties;
3 relationships between microstructural development and the processing techniques; and
4 selection of materials and processing methods to achieve FRC composites with the desired characteristics.

The book is divided into two parts:

1 The first part deals with the theoretical background underlying the behaviour of FRC, including an intensive treatment of the mechanics of fibre reinforced brittle matrices and its implications for cementitious systems, taking into account the special bulk and interfacial microstructure of FRC.

2 The second part describes the principal types of fibre – cement composites, from the point of view of production processes, physical and mechanical properties, durability and applications. These characteristics are discussed in terms of the basic principles governing the behaviour of FRC.
