Author: James A. Farny | Size: 1 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Portland Cement Association | Year: 2001 | pages: 30
White cement is a key ingredient in architectural and decorative concrete. Regularly chosen for its appearance, white cement concrete has many applications and provides benefits such as safety, energy efficiency, and low maintenance. This publication provides architects, ready mix producers, and contractors with the information necessary to design, mix, and place attractive white cement and colored concrete. Technical information presented in this text is applicable to cast-in-place, precast, and tilt-up construction.
White and colored concrete are materials of choice for use in architectural concrete. This handbook is intended to improve white and colored concrete construction by providing technical information to designers (architects, engineers, specifiers), contractors, and ready-mix producers.
Though decorative concrete is more expensive than plain concrete, it is also more affordable than natural materials like limestone, cut stone, field stone, cobblestone, marble, or granite. Concrete can emulate these and many other materials to create durable structures with an attractive appearance. Included full-color photos illustrate applications and techniques.
