This Code of Practice provides recommendations for the design, construction and quality control of reinforced and prestressed concrete buildings and structures where the concrete is made with normal weight aggregates. It covers the requirements for strength, serviceability, durability and fire resistance, but not other possible requirements such as thermal or acoustic properties. For bridges and associated structures, reference should also be made to the Structures Design Manual for Highways and Railways issued by the Highways Department. The design of precast concrete elements and structures is covered in a separate Code of Practice. The following are outside the scope of this Code of Practice:
• particular aspects of special types of buildings and civil engineering works, such as membrane, shell and composite structures, viaducts, dams, pressure vessels, and reservoirs
• no fines concrete, aerated concrete, glass fibre reinforced concrete, and concrete containing lightweight or heavy aggregate or structural steel sections.
