I want to work on a research in structural engineering. The research should make use of STAAD or other Bentley products. Any ideas or suggestions will be helpfull.

Obama, It seems quite a commercial/advertisement research!
I will suggest you to compare STAAD with the other commercial products - just make one-and-the-same model/mesh of any structure you like.
I will suggest you - buried under clay material pipe conduit (steel), full with pressurized oil, and subjected to ground motion (seismogram). You should take enough length of the pipe, and finally you will compare the forces at the pipe-connections. This will impress everybody, and he will buy STAAD in the next 30 minutes.
Of course, you can just compare some simple model, for which you can find exact theoretical solution. You will prove that STAAD gives better/worse results, compared to other programs.
