It is good to see that someone read this thread, and I appreciate replies. What david-smith wrote was worth knowing.
Regarding the last sentence, I've started to work with several open source programs. For text editing, here is Latex, for numerical analysis, FEAP, OpenSees and some other....
But what if you're using Mathematica or Matlab. Which are the open source alternatives for that ?
I think for what I've seen/read that blocking a software to connect to internet via host file is the most easiest way to be safe. Of course, virtual machine is even safer. Disabling the connection and that's it (good advice david-smith).
