i think itcssaec was advising you to go back to 'fundamental' by checking out the basic principle of fluid mechanics. A plumbing reference book may help too. But i not quite sure we have a plumbing book here up to now(plumbing is not exactly civil engineering scope).
Practically, i suggest you install a pressure gauge at the supply to know exactly the pressure of the source. But be cautious if this a permanent design, because this measured may fluctuate quite a fair bit. And my country recommending minimum balance head at highest supply level not less than 4.5m.
Do a search from this great CIVIL engineering Expert Advisor and you will find a number of plumbing codes and a great many things related to
pipe analysis and hydraulics. eg
Plumbing Engineering Design Handbook
NATIONAL STANDARD PLUMBING CODE ILLUSTRATED 2006
Elite Dpipe
Pipe Flow Expert 4.6 is quite nice to use ( with 3D grid) except that the "program" jumps out when I tried to view/export the non graphical results.
I am currently using Snagit 9.0 to screen capture the results and also looking for a version compatible with ver 4.6 so that I can still use the model and can
print out all the data/results.
I am trying AFT Fathom ( also pipe analysis) now.
If you want to move into fluid hydraulics-to-transients(water hammer) you can try AFT impulse or even Bentley watercad/ water hammer ( more difficult because need to load Microstation, etc).
If you want to get up to speed and be productive, I suggest that you try to understand clearly but just a bit of the fundamentals , select the program and test most of the scenarios.
All of the programs that I listed above are available(?) at CIVILEA.
One comment I like to make is
"When someone uploads and explain clearly about that program
then we must assume that it works and can be downloaded. He need to
take effort to upload and make sure that it can be shared."
"When someone cannot download , we need to assume that what he say is
right also. There are many reasons why he cannot download (hoster, virus,OS,etc)"
When we can get so much, it is unbecoming of us not to share.
Peace and happiness to all CIVILEA subscribers !
