Shanghai Tower will anchor the city’s Lujiazui district, which has emerged as one of East Asia’s leading financial centers. Designed by a local team of Gensler architects to embody Shanghai’s rich culture, the 632-meter-high mixed-use building will complete the city’s super-highrise precinct. It is the most forward-looking of the three towers symbolizing Shanghai’s past, present, and future. The new tower takes inspiration from Shanghai’s tradition of parks and neighborhoods. Its curved façade and spiraling form symbolize the dynamic emergence of modern China. By incorporating sustainable best practices, Shanghai Tower is at the forefront of a new generation of super-highrise towers, achieving the highest level of performance and offering unprecedented community access.
Find 2008 (Finland + India) aims to extend already existing business relations between India and Finland, enhance awareness of the rising business opportunities that emerging new technologies have to offer and how to utilize them. The conference provides an exceptional platform for facilitating collaboration, partnerships and investments between Finland, India and third parties. This is portion of the presentation of Pekka Pulkkinen (WSP).

Once completed, the Chenab Bridge – at 1315 meters long and 359 meters high – will be the tallest Railway Arch Bridge in the world. As part of the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (JUSBRL), the bridge will cross over the deep gorges of the Chenab River and connect the Kashmir valley with Udhampur. The railway line itself, which has been taken up as a National Railway project will for the first time connect Kashmir to the rest of India. The bridge is designed as a massive steel arch – a first in India. To resist the challenge of hostile weather, the steel being used will withstand temperatures as low as -20C and wind speeds of 200 kmph, while being economical in cost. Forces of nature apart, the engineers also face the challenge of construction in one of the most complicated and isolated terrains, while also ensuring that the flow of the river is not disturbed.

Contents of the presentation:
1. Basic Information of the Project
2. The Bridge Site
3. Scope of Design Work
4. Description of the Bridge
5. Experiences of Cooperation between Design Consultant, Authorities and Indian Contractors
6. Conclusions
Qingdao Harborfront, occupying 26 hectares of former maritime/industrial uses in the downtown and fronting on Jiaozhou Bay, is the anchor redevelopment for the city’s waterfront revitalization initiative.
With growing prosperity and the relocation of commercial port activities to new facilities across Jiaozhou Bay, Qingdao can now re-imagine its old docklands and shipyards to become new, residentially and commercially-led, mixed-use communities that reunite the downtown and its citizens with the waterfront.
Qingdao Harborfront will feature state-of-theart infrastructure to sustainably support private development and augment real estate value. Additionally, the project will include a multi-modal transit hub -a significant contribution to the citywide transportation network. This facility will be surmounted by a new public park overlooking the water.
Facing the Sumida River in the eastern part of Tokyo, the Narihirabashi and Oshiage areas were once flourishing centers of Edo culture (17th to late 19th century). In February 2006 the Tobu Railway Co. proposed to local broadcasting companies and to Sumida Ward that a huge steel tower, called the Tokyo Sky Tree, be built there. The first thing particularly emphasized by the client at the start of the project was the “creation of a landscape beyond space-time there.” During subsequent stages of the design work, consistent efforts were made to realize this theme.
The TVSdesign concept for the landmark "Dubai Towers- Dubai" is the centerpiece for "The Lagoons," a new urban development in Dubai, UAE. The four towers, ranging from 57 to 88 floors atop a nine level podium, are clustered to form a choreographed sculpture, representing the movement of candlelight.

The dramatic Dubai Towers, visible from extended distances, will combine in form to represent the future of Dubai and its innovative achievements. The architectural expressions are guided by a sophisticated aesthetic along with structural and engineering triumphs unmatched by any modern structure. The buildings will serve residential, commercial, retail and hospitality purposes.

Strategically located on the extension of the Dubai Creek, the project centers on concepts of environment, conservation parkland and open spaces. The island community is located next to the Ras Al Kror Wildlife Sanctuary and is one of the first projects in Dubai undergoing an Integrated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) following international standards across all phases of the project. Culture will also be a big focus with the construction of a planetarium, museum, art center, theatre and opera house.
The Langham Place development was born in 1988 when t h e then-Land Development Corporation (later replaced by the Urban Renewal Authority) launched four major urban renewal projects. The Mongkok project, dubbed K2, was the largest with a footprint covering several blocks and straddling Shanghai Street. Though best known for its Bird Street, the group of city blocks mainly housed aging low-rise residential buildings and a cooked food market.

Architects Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd were brought onto the project at its inception to work with the LDC in creating a feasible masterplan for tendering. Developer Great Eagle Holdings Ltd was subsequently selected in 1989 to become the jointventure developer (and later the managing partner) of the project and a lengthy process to acquire more than 500 property rights within the project’s boundary was set in motion — a task that eventually spanned years.
PETRONAS Twin Towers

Overview:
Soaring to a height of 451.9 metres, the 88-storey twin structure is Kuala Lumpur's crown jewel. Majestic by day and dazzling at night, the PETRONAS Twin Towers is inspired by Tun Mahathir Mohamad's vision for Malaysia to be a global player. Together with master architect Cesar Pelli, the international icon powerfully captures the nation's ambitions and aspirations.
The PETRONAS Twin Towers symbolises Malaysian culture and advancement on the world stage. This is shown by a blend of local art and cutting-edge innovation. The interior motifs are a reflection of local handicrafts and weaving patterns, while stainless steel and glass combine beautifully as Islamic patterns.
The design of each Tower's floor plate is based on simple geometric forms of two interlocking squares, creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Architecturally, these forms describe important Islamic principles of "unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality".
The towers are 'intelligent' structures, built with a system that seamlessly coordinates telecommunications, environment control, power supply, lighting, fire and smoke control, and building security.

- Pinnacles
These structures house the aircraft warning lights and external maintenance building equipment.
Each pinnacle features a spire with 23 segments, and a ring ball comprised of 14 rings of varying diameters.

- Exterior
Each Tower is set back five times in its ascent to maintain the vertical axis and tapering of the design. The walls of the uppermost floors are also sloped inward to taper and meet the pinnacle.
The Towers feature multi-faceted walls of 33,000 stainless steel and 55,000 glass panels. Vision Glass, specialized panels with light filtering and noise reduction properties, provide a comfortable inner environment. The glass is covered by stainless steel visors to further protect visitors from the tropical sun.

- Interior
Designs and patterns of the entrance halls' foyer reflect traditional handicrafts and 'songket', or weaving. In addition, the wall panels and screens are also inspired by hardwood carvings from the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The floor designs are based on intricate patterns of pandan weaving and Bertram palm wall matting.

- Lifts
The Towers house 29 double-decker high-speed passenger lifts, six heavy-duty service lifts and four executive lifts. The floors are based on a zoning arrangement: two sets of 6 double-decker lifts serve levels 1 to 23 and levels 1 to 37, while another set of the five double-decker lifts take passengers directly to the Sky Lobby. Here, passengers take another lift to the upper zones.
The executive lifts are the longest rise in any office building in Malaysia. It serves every floor from the basement car park to the top of the Towers in 90 seconds.
Each passenger deck can carry 26 people or 52 in total, while the executive lifts can carry an average of 10. Its speed is between 3.5m/s and 6.0 m/s, depending on the zones they
The Dubai Multi Commodity Centre’s Almas Tower is a 360m high slender office tower located in the Jumeirah Lake Towers development in Dubai,United Arab Emirates (UAE) . The building consists of five basements, two podium levels,60 storeys of offices and three mechanical floors. It has a total floor area of approximately 85,000m².
A typical tower floor plan is in the form of two diagonally offset ellipses, with a floor plate approximately 64m long and 42m wide . The floor plan from level 53 to level 64 consists of only one of
the two ellipses. An 81m slender spire peaks at 360m, forming the
highest point in the development.
The building was completed in September 2008 and according
to the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH),
was the world’s second tallest building completed that year.
2022 may seem a long way off, but that hasn’t stopped Qatar 2022 from releasing the concept designs for its proposed stadiums, should the country win the bid to host the FIFA World Cup at this time. Designed by Albert Speer & Partner GmbH, the stadiums display striking and dramatic facades and incorporate state-of-the-art technology in an effort to stand out from the crowd bidding to host this popular tournament.
Two simple yet elegant steel and glass vaults "(250x22x65 m) cover the halls containing eight platforms. In the course of preparations for the 2012 Summer Olympics, John McAslan + Partners, an architectural and design practice based in London, were assigned with the redevelopment and structural extension of the station which was in dire need of major renovation.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi-World's largest theme park

Ferrari World is a Ferrari themed amusement park on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The park is situated under a 200,000 m2 roof making it the largest indoor amusement park in the world with world's largest space frame roof. Ferrari World officially opened on November 4, 2010. The theme park is home to Formula Rossa, the world's fastest roller coaster.
Architectural Overview

Sitting beneath its iconic red roof in the heart of Yas Island, is the world’s first Ferrari theme park and largest attraction of its kind. The Park pays tribute to the passion, excellence, performance, and technical innovation that Ferrari has established over the years and represents today. To house this state of the art leisure attraction, world renowned architectural firm Benoy created a building to reflect the sinuous form of a Ferrari, directly inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body.

Due to the shape of the island and the position of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in close proximity to the airport, the building was conceived as a very simple ‘ground hugging’ form, peeling up from the landscape in flowing lines like a red sand dune. The visually distinctive form and shape crowns the Yas Marina Circuit and due to its location, the sleek shape and beauty of the building can be experienced by anyone driving past or flying over the Island. The building is a true architectural expression of the values of the Ferrari brand itself.

The iconic roof of Ferrari World was designed by Benoy Architects. It is modelled after the side profile of a Ferrari GT. Ramboll provided the structural engineering, masterplanning and urban design, geotechnical engineering and the facade engineering. The roof has a total surface area of 200,000 m2 with a perimeter of 2,200 m. The theme park, measuring 86,000 m2 , is located under this 50 m high roof. These factors make Ferrari World the largest indoor theme park in the world.

A Ferrari logo adorns the roof of the building and measures 65 m by 48.5 m - the largest Ferrari logo ever created. 12,370 tonnes of steel has been used to support this roof. The centre of the roof is marked by a 100-m glazed funnel. The structure was declared completed on 29 October 2009.
Key facts

• The enclosed volume of air of the upper plaza level is over 3,000,000 cubic metres
• The gross foot print of the plaza level is 86,000 sqm
• The total accommodation of all 3 levels is 176,000 sqm
• The building stands 50m high above sea level, with the central shot ride at a staggering 62.5m high, the highest permissible structure on the flight path to the airport
• The roof structure is over 700 metres in diameter
• The total roof area is 200,000 sqm
• The Ferrari logo on the roof measures an incredible 65 meters in length and covers an area of 3,000 sqm; the biggest Ferrari logo ever created
• The plot the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi building sits on is over 700,000 sqm
• The expansive 48 metre high roof is punctuated by a vast glazed crystal-like funnel measuring 100 metres in diameter at the top, pulling down to just 17 metres diameter at its base
• The central funnel roof is supported on 12 primary columns which form a 12-point Arabic star pattern that is used to describe the primary geometry of the overall roof space and extends out to meet the primary raked shield façade

Interesting Facts

• The 86,000 SQM enclosed area of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi can fit 7 football fields in ‘head to toe’.

• The roof structure of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is over 700 meters in diameter, almost double the longest span of the Brooklyn Bridge, or about the length of 7 Statues of Liberty if they were laid out ‘head to toe’.

• The total roof area of 200,000 SQM uses enough aluminum to cover 16,750 Ferrari’s, or if you laid the roof flat you could place 20,100 Ferrari’s side by side and end to end.

• If Ferrari World Abu Dhabi was turned upright, it would be the tallest man made structure in the world at over 300 floors!

• The Ferrari logo on the roof, the largest ever created, measures an incredible 65m in length and covers an area of 3,000 SQM which could fit at least 7 basketball courts.

• The volume of concrete in Hoover Dam could fit inside Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

• 100,000 cubic meters of concrete were used to pour the slabs of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which is 10,000 cubic meters more than what was used for Wembley Stadium in London.

• Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has the largest space frame structure ever built with a total of approximately 172,000 members and 43,100 nodes.

• Ferrari World Abu Dhabi needed 12,370 tons of steel to create its structure; the Eiffel Tower only needed 7,000 tons.

• The enclosed volume of air of the upper plaza level is 3,000,000 cubic meters, equivalent to the total volume of air in 41 hot air balloons.

• The gross footprint area of the plaza level is equivalent to approximately 15 American Football fields.

• The Empire State Building could be rebuilt in the same time it took to clad the 200,000 sqm of roof for Ferrari World Abu Dhabi; approximately 14 months.

• Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster, has the same G force one would feel driving in an F1 car and braking at maximum speed.

• Bell’Italia displays more than 40,000 hand-planted miniature trees.

• Ferrari World Abu Dhabi includes 1,200 dining seats – enough to feed the entire park at full capacity in 3 hours.

• A football field needs 8,400 SQM of grass coverage; to cover the area around the roller coasters at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, 4.5 times that amount was used - approximately 39,000 SQM of ground cover.
