Installed standalone Corus sections interactive 'blue book'

Description of software

The installed standalone Corus sections interactive 'blue book' is an electronic version of the SCI Blue Book. The latest release, Version 4, includes design information in accordance with BS EN 1993-1-1, using information given in the new SCI publication ‘Steel Building Design: Design Data, In accordance with Eurocodes and the UK National Annexes’.

The Interactive ‘Blue Book’ includes the following features -

Design tables and notes to BS EN 1993-1-1, with the ability to switch between these and the equivalent view for BS 5950-1:2000 (new in Version 4).
Location of Section properties, effective section properties, section tolerance and section load carrying performance information through a simple tree structure for each section range.
Designers can switch steel grades between those available for the section range (e.g. Advance® 275 and Advance® 355 for the Advance® section range).
Once a table for a particular section type and size has been located the designer can rapidly look at other performance tables for that section by using the ‘Related Tables’ option.
The designer can look at the technical notes associated with the tables viewed.
There are a wide range of customisation options from selection of tables and behaviours through to working environment settings. The Interactive Blue Book will ‘remember’ these personalised settings and the position of the user within the Blue Book between sessions.
A new ‘Row Marker’ feature has been added in Version 4; pressing ‘CTRL+M’ on the keyboard displays a horizontal bar when viewing design tables and the marker may be dragged up or down to allow easier reading across a row.
There is an in-built automatic update service for users connected to the Internet.
Designers can print the current section table data for design files in 'printer-friendly' format.
Designers can select, cut and paste design information into other applications.
The Interactive Blue Book software and content are carefully quality assured.

All design information given in the Interactive Blue Book is in accordance with the appropriate parts of BS 5950-1:2000 and BS EN 1993-1-1.
All design data is generated from the root software functions used to populate SCI P202: Steelwork Design Guide to BS 5950-1: 2000. Volume 1 - Section Properties - Member Capacities. 7th Edition and SCI P363: Steel Building Design: Design Data, In accordance with Eurocodes and the UK National Annexes.
The SCI carries an audit trail describing the methods used to arrive at information within the product and the testing undertaken on contributing software functions, together with testing of the out-turn figures.
The SCI provides a free update service for the software to ensure that the design data represented in the product is up-to-date (see Notes below).

About Advance® Sections

The Advance® name covers the full range of hot rolled sections manufactured by Corus for the UK market, (channels, angles, tees and bearing piles as well as beams and columns). Increasingly a least weight structural design approach does not necessarily mean least cost in whole building terms.

Often structural depth has a major impact on overall cost due to the high cost of the building envelope. Where services are to be integrated with the structure a beam sized specifically for the passage of those services is often appropriate. The Advance® range gives designers the flexibility to achieve the most effective structural solution from our hot rolled sections.

Celsius® 355 hot finished structural hollow sections are supplied in a standard grade of S355 J2H in accordance with the European Standard for hot finished structural hollow sections EN 10210: 2006 plus an improved corner profile of 2T maximum radius. Celsius S355J2H is suitable for all internal and external applications to BS5950-1:2000, BS5400, EN 1993, and all equivalent national and international steel design standards. The range includes circular, square, rectangular and the new elliptical hollow sections.

Hybox® 355 cold formed structural hollow sections are supplied in a standard grade of S355 J2H in accordance with the European Standard for cold formed structural hollow sections, EN10219: 2006. These sections fully comply with the structural design requirements of BS5950-1 and the European product standard EN10219 S355J2H. The range includes circular, square, and rectangular hollow sections.
