SCI RT1187 Guidance on the Fire Protection of Beams with Web Openings

This report provides details of the assessment methodology and calculation procedure adopted by SCI to produce tables of limiting temperature for individual intumescent coatings based on thermal performance demonstrated by testing and assessment in accordance with the ASFP protocol for beams with web openings. A description of the structural calculation model is provided, including the method of automatically generating beam geometries and the thermal model used to determine the temperature variation on the cross section of beams with web openings. The report also includes a worked example to illustrate the calculation procedure required for a single value of limiting temperature given in the design tables supplied to intumescent manufacturers.
