Composite Design

The extension is used for the Composite Steel Beam design.
The structure elements must fulfill the following requirements:
Beams:
· Must be linear
· Must be AISC Standard Wide Flange shapes
· Must be in plane
· Cannot cross other beams
· Cannot form a circular bearing chain with other members
Slab and all beams must be associated with the same level
Slabs:
· One directional slabs only
· Exactly one slab reinforcing all members in one selection group
· Entire design area must be within slab (no edges inside design area)
· Slab must be planar (no warped slabs)
Loads:
· All point and line loads must be applied to a member in the design area
· Point loads are not counted if they are applied to the end of a member, they are assumed to be supported by whatever is supporting the member
· Point loads at the intersection of more than one member are applied to the first qualifying member only
· Only the component of a load normal to the plane of the design area will be included in the design.
· Unhosted point loads must be applied to a beam element. Note that hosted point loads can only be applied to beam end points in Revit Structure, and are therefore of limited use for analysis
Hosted and Unhosted Line Loads must be applied to a beam element and can be applied without any other limitation.
Hosted and Unhosted Area Loads can be applied to any slab area and can vary in up o one direction. This extensions does not support loads tapered in more than one direction.
· Load from columns are not taken into account. Concentrated loads must be defined by user.
Only DD and LL load cases are managed by this version.
The beam analysis will take place in the plane of the beam (no vibration analysis will be performed). All beams are assumed to be simply supported.

Note that no checks will be made for the capacity of the slab.

Load Takedown

Using the Load Takedown extension, you can perform a simulation of load takedown for vertical forces and stresses caused by these forces in vertical elements of a structure defined in Revit ®.
You can load necessary information from Revit®:
· geometry
· material parameters
· supports
· loads
· load cases
· load combinations.
All results are presented in appropriate tables and on diagrams.
Assumptions:
· Visualization of vertical forces includes:
o for columns: vertical force Fx
o for walls: a sum of vertical forces on the top edge of an element.
· Stresses are calculated using the following formula: vertical force (as specified in point 1) / cross-sectional area.
To perform the load takedown:
· define a structure in Revit ® (with supports, loads and load combinations)
· launch Load Takedown
· modify parameters of supports
· automatically verify the structure
· perform calculations
· analyze the calculation results; you can save the result report in a Microsoft Excel© or Microsoft Word© file (in a mht or html format).
· save reactions on foundations, columns and walls to an rvt file.
