RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - ivanveliki - 10-15-2009

I suggest Windows 7, I never tried it, but I heard good words about it. Also I prefer XP before Vista.

RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - verongskey - 10-15-2009

I am using Vista ultimate (32bit) in my office. Windows 7(64bit) in my room.
I will also suggest you to go for Windows 7, it is far much better, you will love it.

RE: WINDOWS 7 or vista..? - niki102 - 10-15-2009

OF COURSE WINDOWS 7.

DEAR ALL,,,
READ THIS POST CAREFULLY

EVERYTHING CAN NOT BE EXPLAINED HERE
EVEN THOUGH,
SOME MOST POWERFUL FEATURES I LIKE ARE........

IN WINDOWS 7 U CAN WRITE DVD JUST LIKE COPYING IN USB PENDRIVE. WITHOUT ANY SOFTWARES, JUST DRAG AND DROP.
VERY FAST DVD WRITING.

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 12 WITH ALL CODEC WITH WHICH U CAN PLAY EVEN DVD MOVIES OR ANY OTHER FILETYPES LIKE mp4 OR ANY LATEST....

SPACIELLY DESIGNED TASKBAR. QUICK LAUNCH TYPE.... VERY ATTRACTIVE
[Image: b4zc96aggf07wx0uqfk.bmp]

IT SUPPORT ALMOST ALL USB DRIVES AS READYBOOST. (U CAN USE UR PENDRIVE/USB DRIVE AS RAM MEMORY VERY EFFECTIVELY)

AUTOMATICALLY SOLVE COMPATIBILITY ISSUES..
(EVEN I DON'T HAVE INSTALL ANY DRIVERS, PRINTERS, SCANNERS, ETC MANUALLY, JUST IN FIRST AUTOMATIC UPDATE, ALL WAS INSTALLED AUTOMATICALLY.)

EXTRAORDINARY FEATURE IS ITS "PREVIEW PEN"
IN WHICH U CAN SHOW ANY PICTURES, MOVIES, OR ANY OF THE MS-OFFICE FILE. WITHOUT OPENING IT..

THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN WINDOWS 7 & VISTA.

EVEN I RECOMMEND TO USE 64 BIT WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE EDITION.
(B'CAZ I M EXPERIENCING SPEED MORE THAN THE SPEED OF WIN X WITH 3GB RAM, IN MY 1 GB RAM WITH WIN 7)

(FOR ALL NEW USER TO WINDOWS 7, AND ALSO FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED TO EXPERIENCE IT,,,,
I RECOMMEND TO SEE FOLLOWING THREADS POSTED BY ME,,,)

I wouldn't even consider VISTA. My laptop has vista on it an nothing works easily (if at all). Its the only windows OS I have managed to crash excel on and some engineering software doesn't "just work" like xp. I will be updating to windows 7 when it comes out as I have heard it is more compatible with older software that works well on XP. Just my $0.02.

RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - jaga - 10-15-2009

I'm using Windows 7 which is much better than vista. Lot of unnessary things have been removed and more user friendly features are incorporated. If you have any chance try install windwos 7 to your machine if you have more than 2 GB RAM. Seems like software compatibility issues experienced have been resolved. Try and you will love it.

RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - Dell_Brett - 10-16-2009

Dear erifulton,

Cause this is an engineering forum, I'll post my answer with this focus.
Certainly most of our colleagues cold disagree of my point of view, but, let's go:

- If you needs professionalism, efficiency, compatibility, security for properly run all engineering programs, my choice is, indubitably, Windows XP SP3;
- If your client have no technical knowledge and you needs to impress him, Windows Vista iis the best choice!
- If you needs to impress yours colleagues, windows 7 is cool!

Of course, it's a joke, but a serious joke (Think in consider it!)

Just for fun!

Regards

Dell

RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - jaga - 10-16-2009

Dear Dell Brett,

I do not agree with you on XP SP3. Because I have been working with Autodesk Civil 3D, MXRoad V8i on XP SP3. But I had lot of stability issues. I prefer SP2.

You'r correct on Vista. It's just the appearance. Really difficult to run Civil 3D and MXroad.

Now I'm using Windows 7, I like it because it's simple appearance and my highways softwares are working well at the moment. I think it's too early to comment in detail for me. However It has lot of cool features which are performing better than new features had on vista.

For me changing XP to 7, it's like swiching Windows 2000 to XP. I never used windows 98 or ME.

RE: Windows 7 or vista..? - Dell_Brett - 10-16-2009

Thanks jaga.
I see your point and do agree with you! SP3 isnĀ“t the "state of art" of XP family!
If any member read the last 2 or 3 months posts related to problems do apply "medicine" in software caused by incompatibility with "modern" OS, easily will conclude that the most recent OS not exactly is the better choice to run ALMOST OF common engineering (structural) software.
Someone needs to find the "equilibrium point".

Regards

Dell
